Add a New Alternate Insurance Company and allocate to shipment
Use this guide to add and configure a new alternate insurance provider in PostalMate.
Add/Apply Alternate Insurance

🔧 Setup Insurance Company
Navigation:Tools > PostalMate Settings > Insurance Settings
➤ Companies and Rate Groups
- Select Companies and rate groups
- Click Add
- Enter the Insurance Company Name
- Click Add to create Rate Groups
- When prompted to save the company name, choose Yes
- Now you are ready to add your rate tiers.
➤ Add Rate Group
- Enter Rate Group Name (Description)
- Enter Maximum Amount and Approval Amounts (per provider guidelines)
- Enter desired Declared Value Ranges
- Click OK
- Repeat as needed for additional rate groups
- Close screens to return to Insurance Settings
🔗 Map Services to Coverage
- Select Map services to coverage
- Choose the Carrier Services to be covered
- Under Default Coverage, select the appropriate Rate Group
- Click OK to save.
💲 Advanced Rate Settings
Under Advanced rate settings, choose Set rates individually
- Select the Company
- Select the Rate Group
- Enter Wholesale Per Declared Value Unit (the amount you are charged per unit)
- Click SAVE and Close to now set your retail rates.
- Close screens to return to Insurance Settings
- Add your profit margin / markup
- Select your Alternate Company
- Click Apply & Save
Note: You can go back into Set rates individually and add a Retail Flat Amount to calculate with Retail Per DVU* amount if desired.
📦 Using Alternate Insurance
- Enter Declared Value during shipment as usual
- On the Add-Ons screen, PostalMate automatically allocates coverage based on carrier rules
- (Example: If carrier includes first $100 free, system adjusts automatically)
🌎 International or Services Without Add-Ons
- For services that have no add-ons, such as DHL (International), Insurance allocation appears on the Review & Confirm screen.
Note: Check with the provider(s) regarding international coverage.
